Lord Angelo has the reputation of being a man of strict and ascetic morals. As the absent Duke's representative, he and his vice squad take forceful action against the dissolute morals of the Viennese. Isabella, a young nun ,comes to plead with Angelo for the life of her brother, Claudio, condemned to death for pre-marital sex with his fiancée. This meeting will have fatal consequences. Lord Angelo offers the beautiful novice a dishonourable deal. Her brother will be pardoned if she agrees to sleep with him .........
Thomas Weber-Schallauer's inspired interpretation of Shakespeare's text has, 400 years later, lost none of its original suspense nor its relevance for our modern times.
