Introduction 45 minutes before curtain-up
The Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding and the Neue Hofkapelle München Ensemble first staged Henry Purcell's masque “The Fairy Queen“ at the Prince Regent's Theatre in February 2009. Purcell's work is based on Shakespeare's play and so perfectly complements the Munich “Dream“ it has accompanied to Neuss and adds a hugely enjoyable musical dimension to the Shakespeare Festival with a concert performance of Henry Purcell's masque. The lyricist Durs Grünbein has written a new version of the text, which will be spoken by the actors of the “Dream“'s Munich theatre company. Christoph Hammer, as musical director, conducts the Neue Hofkapelle München Ensemble together with 8 young singers in this elegent and vivid performance of Purcell's high baroque masque “The Fairy Queen“.
