The figures in the Magic Kingdom of Illiria are living in a sense of delirium. A delirium of love, of alcohol, of all stages of sensual chaos. The fools are wise and the wise are infatuated. The transit to reality at the end of this steadfast comedy is rather sobering but then again, what haven't we experienced with Viola, Orsino, Olivia, Malvolio and Sir Toby? This raging interim period comes to an end on the twelfth of the "raw" nights, similar to the celebration of the "three Kings" in Germany after 12 days of Christmas: "Twelfth Night" or "As you like it".
