The Rheinische Landestheater is still on the Shakespearean road to success:
In a jealous delusion, King Leontes from Sicily is convinced that his wife Hermione is cheating on him with his friend Polixenes, the king of Böhmen. Hermione is thrown into jail and Leontes' newborn daughter is not recognised as his child. He abandons her on an unknown street. Furious, the king even refuses to accept the oracle from Delphi which brands him as the jealous tyrant who will live without an heir, as long as that which was lost will never be found. He then receives the message that his young son Mamilius has suddenly died. Hermione collapses and apparently dies of grief.
The difficult blows of fate make Leontes realise that he himself was the one who destroyed everything he loved. However 16 years must pass before the story- like in a fairytale- can have a happy ending.
