Among this season's German language productions of Shakespeare the BAT is performing not only “Macbeth“ but also “As you like it,“ a magical production by Lily Sykes, so fresh and lovely that the Shakespeare Festival was delighted to invite the very young actors and actresses to perform here.
Whilst on the run from a brutal and rigid “now“ in which everything is categorized and defined, Rosalind and her friends escape to a Utopia where everyone can behave as they wish. Free and quite alone they try out different roles and emotions, in particular relating to love. However the innocent anarchy of the world in the Forest of Arden leads the young people to the dark nature of their apparently pure feelings and impulses...
