One can certainly be amazed by the beautiful CD/album Caroll Vanwelden, which the Belgian jazz singer and pianist, who lives in Heidelberg, has released: She has set 16 of the most beautiful Shakespeare sonnets to music and arranged them and proven that that jazz music can be approached using Shakespeare texts. The voice of Caroll Vanweldens, sometimes soft and poetic, sometimes raw and irascible, is ideally accompanied by trumpets, flugelhorn, bass and drums.
“She is the metrical verse of Shakespeare (...) with much emphasis, intuition and inspiration“
Subtle and varied – a great discovery for Shakespeare and the Globe.
