Prospero, once the rightful king of Milan, subdued the natural powers of his exile island and its inhabitants, the Sylph Ariel and the indigene Caliban. The time comes to avenge the loss of his power when his usurpatory brother, the king of Naples, and his entourage are stranded on his island in the wake of a storm. Yet, coincidentally, his daughter, Miranda, falls in love with his nephew, Ferdinand, Ariel demands his freedom and Caliban attempts a revolution. The political power structure shifts and out of revenge emerges a mellowed forgiveness.
A new production of Shakespeare's late work by the Rheinische Landestheater.
