Richard III.
Maladype Theatre, Budapest

Description
The Wars of the Roses are coming to an end; the victory of the Yorks is hinting towards peace. Yet Richard, the king's younger brother, struggles to fit in at court and decides to go to war again, this time against his own family. He wants to be on the throne and will remove anyone who might stand in his way. Once on the throne, he continues to murder for fear of losing it, until his own conscience becomes his true enemy. In the haunting staging of the Maladype Theatre from Budapest, the actors shine, and the only prop is a shimmering scaffolding which shapes the scene and challenges the viewer’s imagination, just as Shakespeare had imagined. Whoever has read the piece beforehand is at a clear advantage.
