Description
The free adaptation of Ben Jonson's "Volpone" (1670) by Stefan Zweig premiered in 1926 at the Vienna Burgtheater and subsequently became one of the most popular comedies of its time. The Volkstheater Munich has succeeded in creating an enthusiastic new production directed by Abdullah Kenan Karaca and oozing with a wonderful ensemble.
The wealthy Volpone, cheerful, but supposedly terminally ill, relies on the greed of the legacy hunters who swarm around him like moths around the light and shower him with gifts in exchange for testament favours. He and his servant Mosca enjoy themselves greatly until they are suddenly exposed…
Guaranteed overwhelming fun with a surprising ending - we are fortunate to be able to offer this to the revered Globe audience.
